  • Synchronization over any network type.

Since data portability is very important in our business and generally in our lives, the use of laptops and medium storages, like pen-drives and memory sticks, is indeed a wise choice. Rush is seen as a general descriptor regarding the days of our lives, and for me in particular this is quite annoying as nobody has the time even for a smile anymore. In the current conditions, the need of synchronization between us and the others, for a task to be done or a goal to be achieved is constantly increasing.

In digital environment the main question that rises is how are we able to synchronize the files and folders without using the classical method of copying (which can involve overwriting and annoying stops in the process). There are lots of situations when synchronization software is more than beneficial, like between laptops and desktop PCs, backing-up a server, LAN or WLAN synchronization, between FTP servers, etc. And who has got time anymore? So we need a fast and easy-to-use program that is able to schedule all the tasks mentioned above and, most important, not taking any of our spare time.

Easy2Sync For Files is a simple synchronization tool that brings important benefits in our daily lives. It is a highly customizable Windows application that can save us from lots of headaches, and all it takes is having a look at its options and setting the folders to be synchronized. It doesn't matter if they are from the same hard drive, different medium supports or computers within the same LAN (WLAN) or on a FTP server. The program can do the job even when no one is around.

If you have already used it and defined the tasks the program should achieve, there is nothing simpler than using the Wizard to synchronize all the jobs. If you are a newbie in this domain, you'd better take it slowly as there are lots of options to test. Try it for the first time with the program's 2 test folders (Easy2Sync for Files A and B) and check out its features. Unfortunately, this is a demo version, in which neither subdirectories nor multiple tasks are supported. Nevertheless, there is nothing to stop you from testing its full capabilities.

You can start from scratch with a new extended task collection. Here you can define one or more actions the application will have to perform. And the options are quite a few, as synchronization of a file with the same name from different folders located on different computers is possible. But the type of task may differ also, as you are enabled to copy, move, overwrite one or all files from one station to another, and you can flatten the tree structure as well.

As nobody wants to have any kind of extra activity while using the computer, the program may have all tasks set on Windows startup or shutdown; this is available in case of missing network connection as well. The job also starts if you log on to another computer, but a username and the workstation must be defined. The file system changes may also have a triggering effect onto this software.

Synchronization starts when user defined folders become available from different network or drive names. To prevent overloading the software, a checking and waiting time between syncs has to be set (in seconds) and be aware that this should not be very short (10-30 sec). Synchronization can start at every X amount of minutes or refrained from it at certain times of the day. Different templates are also available to be developed, or one can be created to run as the default one.

From Synchronize menu, you are allowed to enable or disable the scheduler, sync a selected task or all of them. If you want to make sure (or just to see the modification the program has made) you are able to have a look in the Log file (up to 5MB). Pinging your network computers (up to 5) is made by defining their name or their IP address.

The customization of the program itself is very important, as you can set up all the confirmation options. Automation has not been forgotten and may be adjusted for unsupervised synchronization. As some programs need to be closed before the program launches itself, there is a list to type the name of these apps in exactly as they appear in the task bar. Miscellaneous options are offered for reviewing and checking, like copying NTFS rights, recognition of the DST changes or for a passive FTP.

In case you want a drive backup disk, there is no need to spend time gathering all those files you have spread everywhere. Easy2Sync collects the files from a dozen directories (filtering out big temporary files) and prepares one big directory tree, ready to be burned (third party tool is required). Running Easy2sync as a service is a bit complicated and difficult to handle and is not recommended by the developer. In this mode, you can prevent the deletion of the files if the synchronization's calculus shows more than 30% of them.

The producer has really thought of features with an insignificant value, and creation time of the files within a directory tree modifies one hour older or younger. Considering the difference of daylight saving time, this feature may prove to be extremely handy.

In the end, if you are fully satisfied by this software you might recommend it to your friends to test it themselves. Don't worry, you don't have to open your Internet browser as the program makes the transfer automatically. You may take some time to see the other offers of the same producer. The links are found in the Extras menu, along with a small text line presentation.

Easy2sync for Files is an easy to use synchronization tool with an appealing and friendly interface, to be used within office, home or wireless networks or just on the local computer. You need to define tasks and schedulers and you won't even know you have it installed, as even folder changes can trigger an event. Its usage extends to updating your webpage and preparing a backup of your server. It has lots of options and wizards to guide you all the way, and every step you take in creating tasks or schedulers is accompanied by help and hints.

The Good

Easy2Sync is a fast, highly configurable and easy-to-use software to make sure that synchronizing between 2 computers, folders or FTP servers is recursively and safely done. Use it for your laptop, pen-drive, LAN and WLAN networks or backing up servers. You can create different personalized tasks for all your particular sync needs and times synchronization is supported. Set to launch on system startup or simply when you use it on a daily basis, the software is able to flatten a directory structure, or create a copy of a removable media.

The Bad

The demo version works just for folders, as the changes are not applied for subfolders as well. The price is a bit steep for a synchronization tool, as it is not the only one on the market.

The Truth

If synchronization is an operation you make daily, this may be the program you are looking for. It has of options and possible "situations", and there is a small chance the software will not suit your needs. It is a bit costly to buy, but is indeed a well-developed, friendly, handy and easy-to-use synchronizing utility.
