All computer users have had their fair share of working with images. They are a part of our lives whether we’re talking about amateur digital photos of our last vacation or wallpaper we grab from the internet. And, when working with pictures sometimes, a tool that enables you to resize them might just come in handy, for instance when you want to post your images to a website and you need a precise size. This is where EvJO Photo-Image Resizer comes into play. This is an easy-to-use application designed to allow you to quickly resize image files. This tool comes with a 15-day trial, after which you will be asked to purchase it for $24.95 and it doesn’t have any special requirements so it should work on any average PC. Another limitation that you will certainly notice is that in batch mode, you can't resize more than 10 pictures at a time while in the trial period.

You will certainly notice the very straightforward tabbed-based interface that will give you quick access to all of the options this application has to offer. This approach will most likely be appreciated by beginners but also by advanced users given the fact that we all like to be able to complete our tasks without too much fuss.

The first tab is designed for one image processing. You drag and drop the image you want to customize and set the needed parameters. You can also use the load picture option to complete this task. In the right panel, EvJO Photo-Image Resizer will display information concerning the image you’ve selected: the image size, file size, file type and the name. This utility will enable you to view and modify the EXIF data of your image.

The metadata that this standard offers users is a great customization level and refers to date and time information. Digital cameras will record the current date and time and save this in the metadata; camera settings, which include static information like the camera model and make, and info that varies with each image for example orientation (rotation), aperture, shutter speed, focal length, metering mode, and ISO speed information; a thumbnail for previewing the picture on the camera's LCD screen, in file managers, or in photo manipulation software; descriptions and copyright information.

Next, you will have to select the resizing options. EvJO Photo-Image Resizer offers you some predefined sizes to choose from, like 1024 x ratio, a blog designed one - 400 x ratio, email - 640 x ratio and last but not least ratio x 768. You can, of course, customize this size with the help of the custom size feature that allows you to set the width and height required. If you desire further customization of your pictures, you can use the Resample Filter tool that allows you to choose from a complete filter list. The scale employed can be set to pixel or percent, according to your needs. In order to ensure that you get perfect images, you can select for the application to maintain the aspect ratio.

Besides the fact that you can resize your images, EvJO Photo-Image Resizer also offers you the opportunity of converting your files. You can choose from some of the most used file formats when it comes to images: JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF or GIF. These file formats come with options of their own, customized for each. For example, you can select for JPG to erase the EXIF data, or to select the DCT method. You can customize the quality of the newly created image as well.

The PNG conversion comes with the options of setting the compression level or the filter that you want to be used. In what concerns BMP files, the matter is simple: you select whether you want the file to be compressed or not. You don’t have the option of selecting the compression level, which would make things a bit troublesome for advanced users that want a higher level of conversion customization. The New Image Info panel will display all the data about your converted picture: the image size, file size, type and, of course, name.

You can select to customize your new image’s file name by adding an underscore, the date or the file size after the selected filename. You will be asked to enter the desired filename before the conversion is being performed. You will also find the Open destination folder option that will give you a quick access to the image you’ve just created.

The second tab of EvJO Photo-Image Resizer was designed for batch image resizing. Basically, if you need ten photos to be resized, this is the option to use. Of course, you will first select the folder that contains the images in question. You can do this either by using the drag and drop function or the classic Select the folder option. You will also have to select the destination folder.

A list of the images in the selected folder is presented to you, thus having the opportunity to trim it down. To avoid confusions, you can customize the name of the newly created images. In changing the name, there is the possibility to employ the source file name to which you can add a sequential number, the image size, year, month, day, hour, minute or even second. Or you can set to use a new file name to which you can add all or any of the above.

This tab allows you to perform a conversion of the selected files. You will find the same file formats with their option as they were in the previous tab. The fresh thing in the Convert menu will enable you to select to convert all the images, the checked or the unchecked ones. Basically, you can select to process only some of the images that are in the selected folder. This feature is useful if you have to process a whole image folder but you need to convert some of them to JPG and some to PNG.

The Background Mode option of the program is designed to put EvJO Photo-Image Resizer in minimized state for as long as the conversion takes place. This is very useful especially if you have a large number of images to customize and other things to do.

To wrap it up, this is a tool that offers users a high level of customization and enables them to both resize and convert their images with just a few clicks. It’s true that advanced users would most likely want an even finer image customization especially in what concerns the conversion feature.

The Good

The ease of use and straightforward interface certainly recommend this tool. It will allow you to resize and convert your pictures offering support for the most used file formats out there.

The Bad

The price remains the biggest disadvantage this application has. You can probably find cheaper alternatives. Also, we have to mention that a higher level of customization regarding the conversion part would have been welcomed.

The Truth

All in all, EvJO Photo-Image Resizer will enable you to resize and convert your images without too much trouble. It’s true that it might just be too expensive or not complex enough for some users but it gets the job done.
