If you are searching for a way to personalize your images with an watermark Exif wMarker might be the solution.

Whether you are a professional photographer or just an amateur, you might be interested in personalizing your creations at some point by adding a watermark. Exif wMarker is a handy, simple tool designed to help you do just that: watermark your images.

This tool was released under the Shareware license, meaning that every time you’ll open Exif wMarker, it will display a nag screen. To get rid of this window, you will have to purchase the program for 9.90 Euros. The nag screen will also pop-out while processing images, once every 10 pictures, which can be really annoying if you’ve selected a large batch of images.

First and foremost, you will select the source and destination folders. After they’re set, you can begin focusing on how you would like your watermark to look. You can add a footer, header or use another image as your watermark. The footer and header can contain File, EXIF or IPTC info. The range is quite wide: basically, whatever you can think of related to this type of info can be added automatically by the app.

The File Info button will allow you to use some of the file’s attributes or information for your watermark (like file name, file extension and even creation time).

EXIF, short for Exchangeable image file format, is an acronym used to define a standard that stores interchange information in image files, especially in JPEGs. When using the Exif menu you can add info like Exposure Bias, Exposure Time or Focal Length. The list is more than satisfactory in my opinion.

IPTC is also a standard which depicts photo metadata and its purpose it to describe and administrate photos. It’s also used in order to offer the most relevant rights related information. The IPTC button will help you use the country code, country name, copyright notice and a lot more info for your watermark.

If you want a more personalized watermark you can add your own text. We haven’t found a text length limit, but for obvious reasons, most text watermarks are usually short. You wouldn’t want to cover your images with the watermark text.

As for adjusting the text, you can select to use an outline: glow or emboss. The size and opacity can also be adjusted. A shadow can also be added, with its own parameters to be set: opacity, X / Y values and even color. The text can also be customized with the help of the available fonts and formatting options: Bold, Underline or Italic. Next select the color, alignment and opacity and you’re almost done. Another plus is that you can change the text location, as a whole and its alignment.

The Preview section will help you check out the result so you can adjust it, in order to make sure your text looks exactly the way you want it to look.

Last, but certainly not least, you can use a logo or image for your watermark. This feature also comes with some settings of its own. You can adjust the opacity percentage and select the exact position.

Exif wMarker has one major drawback: it can only process JPG and TIFF images. This might not please some users, but considering the fact that most digital cameras use this file format to save photos, the average user will be satisfied. In order to compete with the other image watermarking applications on the market, this is an issue worth dealing with in further releases.

A plus is brought by the resize feature. The Operation menu will help you assure that you won’t get distorted images. You will, of course, manually set the height and width values, choose to reduce big images or to enlarge the small ones. In order to make sure that you don’t end-up with unaesthetic images, you can enlarge small images by no more than a certain value or just enlarge images bigger than a specific size.

Exif wMarker also offers three options in case the Image Aspect Ratio doesn't match with the Target Aspect Ratio. Thus, you can choose to keep the original aspect ratio of the image and fill the empty space with the background color.

The Stretch image to fit option will fill the requested size even if the picture needs to be distorted a little. If the image is too distorted, Exif wMarker will not resize it. Last but not least, we have the Crop image to fit option, which will crop the picture to fit the user-selected dimensions.

During my tests this program performed flawlessly. Its impact on your computer’s resources is minimal, so an average computer will do. The annoying thing remains the nag screen reminding you every 10 photos that the application is shareware.

All in all, Exif wMarker is an app that will help you customize your images with the utmost ease. Whether you want to secure them for copyright reasons or just for fun, this tool will get the job done.

The Good

The extent to which the watermark can be customized is certainly what recommends this tool. The fact that you can also resize your images comes to add value to this app.

The Bad

The fact that you can only process JPG and TIFF images might prove to be annoying for some users. This is a feature worth improving in future releases. Also, placing the watermark might prove to be a little tricky for some users – another thing worth to be taken into consideration in future releases. On top of it all we have the price. Some users might not find the app worth paying for when taking into consideration the multitude of free applications that are available.

The Truth

Exif wMarker will help you watermark your images just the way you like it, in just a few steps. The high level of possibilities for watermark customization is also a plus worth to be taken into consideration when building your software arsenal.
