Two days ago we talked about file fragmentation and I had the chance to present you Power Defragmenter, one of the best free defragmentation tools available. Since it recently released a new version, O&O Defrag Professional became my target and I'll shoot it right away!

This is one of the most powerful programs in this family, many say it's the best, some say they've seen better, but no one can deny its popularity, speed and efficiency. In the next couple of minutes we will try to discover what makes O&O Defrag different.

When installing you have the chance to install the O&O screensaver, add a shell extension or - best of all - register Defrag Professional as standard defragmentation tool

Once the program has been installed and fired up, you will face a wizard allowing you to enable automatic defragmentation. This is good to know it's possible and also a great time saver, but we'll skip it. We have to know what can be done with it manually or you'll miss all the fun!

You can schedule defragmentation tasks, check accurate information for each of your partitions or inspect your hard drive clusters, but they are not the strongest points of this program. What makes O&O Defrag Professional so good is its defrag methods. Oh, and let's not forget its speed.

Stealth and Space methods are quick and inexpensive in time and system resources, and can be used for the initial defragmentation of the system.

The heavy artillery of this program is represented by its three advanced methods: Name, Modified and Access Defrag. They completely reorganize your files on the disk and need enough free space and a lot of system resources to operate efficiently. Files are ordered by their name, modification time and last access time, as the names of each method.
The purpose for this? Maximization of the disk access performance. They take much more time than the first two techniques, but they worth it!

Should I say some words about the intuitive, well designed interface or the detailed Help file? I don't think so, words have their meaning, but when talking about O&O Defrag Professional, they fade. It's time to use it and see for yourselves.


The Good

For me this is the best defragmenter I have ever used and I will keep using it for a long time. It's fast, reliable and has all the features that one would need from such a program.


The Bad

An extremely bad thing about this program is that it's not free. Just kidding, of course, top quality usually costs money, so... I can't find anything else bad with this program, really!


The Truth

I may be a bit too enthusiastic, but this is not the first time that I have the chance to use this program, and I can only say that it can't get any better than this! O&O Defrag Professional is the best choice for any Windows user, so if you are one, don't wait any longer! Try it now!
