Some photo editors make up in ease of use what they lack in complexity, while others are comprehensive in their feature set but lose sight of resources consumption. Photomizer is a bit different. It does not come packed with numerous features as we have already familiarized ourselves with, but the settings it possesses enable users to quickly enhance photos and make corrections to create stunning effects, all without the need of extensive knowledge.

The software application sports a few powerful, yet simple-to-use tools for optimizing photographs by making tweaks to obtain the perfect lighting and color tones. It is packed in a user-friendly interface that permits anyone to swiftly learn how to configure its options.

The trial edition can be tested for 7 days, during which watermarks will be embedded on the output files. This period can be extended to 21 days via free registration, and the full package with no kind of time limitations or restrictions can be purchased for $39.99 / €29.99 (including VAT).

The setup takes place rapidly and does not include attention-demanding options. As for the interface, Photomizer keeps a rather intuitive look to meet the preferences of first-time and advanced users alike. At startup, it shows a dialog with an advertisement for another app made by the same developer, but it can be permanently hidden.

Photos can be added to the list from file or entire directories. The supported formats include BMP, JPG, JPEG, TIF and RAW pictures. Compared to other similar graphic editors, Photomizer is capable of directly processing RAW images without losing quality, whether they are taken from local directories or directly from digital cameras.

Add and preview multiple photosA preview list lets users easily navigate multiple opened photos to make adjustments. The application contains an automatic correction feature that resolves image issues pertaining to color and lighting, while making room for manual adjustments by moving a slider to increase or decrease the effect.

In addition, it is possible to apply HDR (High Dynamic Range) to enhance high-definition photographs, as well as to change the picture angle by 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Photomizer has two viewing modes ready for this purpose: a single pane that shows the image with changes, and a dual-pane mode that displays the initial and output picture, letting users seamlessly observe modifications by moving a slider from the center of the image. Zooming in and out of the photo is possible as well.

Settings can be applied to all files or just the current one. They can also be set as the profile default and reset to their initial configuration later, while profiles can be removed. As far as output options are concerned, Photomizer can apply optimize settings to create either BMP or JPG images with adjustable quality and custom saving directory. These can be further configured in terms of resolution, aspect ratio, enhance mode (e.g. Bilinear, Bicubic, Gaussian).

They can also open the source path of a file in Windows Explorer without leaving the interface, check for software updates, change the interface language, ask the tool to start maximized and automatically look for updates, hide statistics, as well as reset input and output profiles to default.

The Good

The application worked smoothly on Windows 8.1 Pro during our evaluation, without making the operating system hang, crash or pop up error messages. It applies image adjustments rapidly and delivers high-quality photos.

It is compatible with all Windows versions from XP to 8 and 8.1 (both 32-bit and 64-bit architecture types). Multiple languages for the interface are supported, along with some keyboard shortcuts and help documentation.

The application is very simple to use, even by novices. Experienced users may customize advanced output settings before creating the new pictures.

The Bad

It is not particularly rich in its feature set, especially when taking into account the price for the full package.

The interface could use some refinements in the looks department. Its elements seem a bit cluttered, especially when using Photomizer for the first time.

The Truth

For beginners in graphics editors, Photomizer is ideal, thanks to its limited, yet powerful customization settings which enable users to create some quality photos with enhanced settings. However, those more experienced are likely to look for additional features.
