  • (4 more, see all...)

Just how many times did it happen to you to come across uneven audio and get mad while trying to repair it; with things going either very hard or not functioning at all, and not being able to properly operate a professional sound editor? Well, now you have a helping hand in the shape of a very easy to use program, with such an intuitive appearance and with a great processing-power.

Whether it's about amplifying audio or leveling the volumes of each channel, you can be sure that Sound Normalizer will have your job done in no time and with more than satisfactory results. Perfectly fit for both professionals who haven't got a pro-grade audio editor at hand, as well as for the totally inexperienced user at home, who doesn't even know for sure what "normalization" really means. They all are guaranteed to obtain very good results in just minutes.

The Looks

It just doesn't get any simpler that it already is in what Sound Normalizer's GUI is concerned: one fixed-size window in which all the action takes place. A very XP-type style applied on buttons and, generally speaking, the entire GUI makes sure everything is readable and easy to understand.

While menus and common command buttons have been placed at the top of this window, the rest of the elements have been assigned to the rest of the active field. There are two huge buttons for the main functions (Check up and Normalize) and in row with each - the specific graphic elements/tools: level bars for displaying the "checked up" volumes and the normalization level-sliders.

The player is located down at the bottom of this window and it is more than simple in both workings and design, having only Play and Stop buttons and a volume slide bar. The length of the seekbar is quite handy, as it allows you to navigate in a song with more precision than you'd have been able to with a shorter one.

Sound Normalizer has 5 color schemes (or skins, maybe): Windows XP, Office XP, Office 2000, Office 2003 and Grey, but I really wasn't able to see any difference between them all. Even so, this is no serious problem, as the GUI is very light and eye-comforting while offering just enough data for your needs.

The Works

As I guess you have already imagined, one can't speak too much about the process of sound normalization which stands at the bottom of this software, because there simply isn't much to speak about.

Normalization refers to adjusting the volume level in an audio source, whether it is a mono or stereo file or if the volume must go up or down; well, in the case of Sound Normalizer the only way is up, because it won't amplify the source signal to values above 100 percent. This means that - if you have a track whose level is at 87 - you can make it 100 but that's it; you can't use Sound Normalizer to go further than that.

Basically, you load a WAV (unfortunately, this is the only supported file format), check it up and, if you feel the need to, you can adjust the levels for the mono signal or, if the source is stereo, for each channel, independently. This thing is especially useful when you happen to have bad audio sources, with very uneven channel-level distribution, one so bad that listening to it gets very difficult and makes people mad. Don't think that Sound Normalizer will make the impossible possible, everybody knows that you can make crap out of good things, while vice-versa is more or less impossible; nevertheless, a program like Sound Normalizer will come in very handy when you want to produce perfectly-panned audio.

Finally, one very good thing is that Sound Normalizer will not process the original source-file, but a cloned copy of it, so if you make a mistake, you won't loose the original source for good. Saving to another name is as easy as 1-2-3, and even easier as you actually have just 1-2 :) Overall, even if the price could seem just a bit too much, you should think that it's a dedicated software which will do its job perfectly.

The Good

It is a hellishly fast application, taking into consideration the fact that it works with WAV files which are large; simple and easy to use, perfect for the beginners and pros as well.

The Bad

The only not-so-good thing is that it can handle WAV files only.

The Truth

I liked this software and what it did and I advise you to give it at least a try, for you'll not be disappointed.
