Where to Start?

My initial reaction to Speedfan wasn't extraordinary. Another micro managing tool for guys who want to mess with their fan speeds. Big deal? Yeah, I guess you could say that it is a big deal. This little ditty is ever overclocker's dream program.

Why do I need it?

You're playing the latest hardcore game out there. Your PC's whizzing but you can't hear it over the MAX sound effects that are blasting on your surround sound. Suddenly, you're at the most critical part of the game, you've been playing for nearly 3 hours when all of a sudden, your game freezes... You start smelling smoke and then it hits you. %$&*! I forgot I was overclocking my machine and I just burned through $500.00 of the latest and greatest video card on the market. Next time I'll remember to set my alarm and shut off my PC...

Well, serves you right for trying to cheat your system's capabilities. If you're an avid PC user, I'm sure you've heard of many stories like this one. All I have to say is worry no more.

The Guts and Glory of Speedfan

Where do I even begin? This smart tool enables you to manipulate the speeds of your system's fans at a click of a button and... wait for it... wait for it... NO MORE BIOS meddling!

The main viewing purpose of the program is to show its user what's really going in their machine. When minimized, a temperature reading is showed on the button right of the desktop. When Speedfan is in an open window you can see a whole lot more. From Fan speed to total voltage, you can view any and all of the current fan settings.

For the micro-manipulators and overclockers, a 'Clock' tab for your motherboard can easily be viewed, but only after it warns you that "By setting the wrong motherboard or the wrong clock, you might hurt your system. Use it at your own risk and only if you really know what you are doing :-)" So, make sure you're wise enough to not completely overwork your machine.

Even if you do, there's no real need to worry. With the 'Event' log in the 'Configuration' tab, you can easily set rules for your PC to follow with a simple drop down selection menu. Ex. If (temp) from Fan 1 exceeds 36 degrees C. 1 time, then popup message "TURN ME OFF!"

The Good

I like the interface because it's not at all confusing. You can configure nearly every aspect of fan speed, percentage usage and more things than I can understand. You can create rules and reminders with an easy click. The realtime charts are handy when stress testing any machine. The Bad

Honestly, I don't find much wrong with this tool.

The Truth

With Hard Drive temps, system temps, and Fan speeds, this program packs quite a punch. It's definitely one of the best surprises I've found thus far when it comes to temperature and fan controls. This is Definitely worth the download. 5/5
