Supremo is a remote control application that facilitates a gateway between two computers. You can either access a remote PC to control it or provide access to another machine for the same purpose. It can either be used as a reliable tool for two or more users, or you can access your home computer from work, for example.

Unlike TeamViewer, which is a fairly complex software utility filled with rich features suitable for users looking for a bit of everything (e.g. file transfers, meetings, presentations), this tool is somewhat simpler, as it focuses solely on remote access, file transfers, and chatting.

No setup necessary

There is no installation required, which makes Supremo portable. There are no other dependencies involved (like .NET Framework or Java), nor is there the risk of inadvertently installing unwanted third-party components (such as browser toolbars). Just download and run it.

Suffice it to say, Supremo needs to exist on each computer chosen for collaboration. Each PC has a unique ID that transforms it into a server, and it has to be transmitted to the remote PC (client).

Multiple clients can be simultaneously connected to a server

However, there's also a matter of security involved, so a password is necessary to authorize a client PC. Worth mentioning, though, is that the server must be started first, in order for the client to be able to detect it online. What's more, multiple clients can be linked to the same server simultaneously.

Once connected, the desktop of the server computer can be viewed in a large window, so you can immediately start working on the remote computer as if it were the local machine. The connection can be canceled from either the server or the client.

Transfer files, chat with other users, and more

On the top bar of this large window of the server PC, there is a button. Pressing it opens a menu with operations that can be performed. Therefore, it is possible to switch to full screen mode, send the Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination, install a video mirror driver to improve remote desktop performance, toggle keyboard mapping, enhance the color depth, show all monitors, perform file transfers, as well as chat with other users.

Organize an address book and view reports

Furthermore, Supremo lets you keep an address book with multiple computers to seamlessly connect to them without having to look up their credentials each time, by indicating their Supremo ID, name, password, group, and description. You can create different groups, export the address book to file, and import it later or on another computer running the application. A search function is available too.

The tool records all sessions to a logging area, where you can investigate the computer ID, start and end time, along with the duration. This way, you can find out who connected to your PC after leaving it unattended for a longer period of time. Reports can be exported to CSV files.

Configure program preferences

Supremo can be password-protected to prevent other PC users from accessing it. Moreover, it lets you create a whitelist with allowed IDs, while automatically ignoring the rest, apply a proxy configuration to connect to the Internet, make the tool run at every Windows startup until further notice, and minimize it to the system tray area.

The Good

The software application supports multiple UI languages. It worked smoothly on Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 7 in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or prompt error messages. OS compatibility extends to older Windows versions too, including XP.

It is extremely easy to handle, even by inexperienced users. With this app, it is possible to connect to a remote machine to control it, provide access to a remote PC, request password authorization, password-protect the Supremo desktop client, transfer files, chat with other users, create an address book, as well as view reports and export them to file.

Once you're working with the window of the remote PC, all keyboard shortcuts are automatically sent there, and this includes minimizing all windows (Win+D or Win+M), as well as copying and pasting.

It is free to use.

The Bad

The image quality of the remote desktop was poor in our tests (as seen in the photo gallery below), and the frame rate was less impressive than we expected (even with the video mirror driver installed).

The Truth

Taking into account its straightforwardness, Supremo is a pretty decent application for remote desktop control that grants you the possibility to transfer files and chat with other users. It's definitely worth giving a shot.
