Need? Faster? Internet

Yes you don't have a fast Internet connection. You've been made fun of by your friends, classmates, teachers and bosses. It's not your fault you don't have the money to pay for a better connection, so you decide to try to find a program that tweaks your system enough so you can get a little extra bang for your buck and give you that little extra speed you need for whatever reasons. Don't lie, it's usually for gaming.

You find out about TZ Connection Wizard and you're thinking about downloading it. Check out the review and see if it's worth your time.

Under the pressure

TZ Connection Wizard is exactly that, a wizard. Don't think that you can have it running, or actively tweak things after you run it. You're run through a wizard that asks you to set some preferences that could potentially make your connection faster.

The first part starts off like an infomercial gone wrong, a little like the beginning of this review. You get to set the Maximum Transmission Unit and Maximum Segment Size (the preferences are preset in accordance to TZ Connection Wizard, but you can change them to fit your own needs). You go through about seven different steps (setting preferences to RWIN size, TTL, and Keep Alive Time) and then restart your computer.

To ensure that I had accurate readings, I pinged some sites before and after running the program to see if I could get a drastic difference in my connection speed and this is what I came up with:

Sites pinged pre install:

Softpedia: average = 5ms Yahoo: average = 187 ms Google: average = 137 ms NYSE: average = 4ms

Sites pinged post install:

Softpedia: average = 3 ms Yahoo: average = 188 ms Google: average = 135 ms NYSE: average = 3 ms

As you can see, I had no ultimate increase in speed, just a few milliseconds here and there.

The Good

It technically did speed up my time with a couple of milliseconds added here and there. You also have the chance to revert back to your original settings.

The Bad

There was no significant speed change. I would have liked to see something more noticeable.

The Truth

I see no reason why users shouldn't give this a try, but don't expect your connection to sky rocket through the roof.
