No matter if you are a forgetful fellow or if you are the most reliable person in the world, you are probably in the habit of writing down notes related to all sorts of stuff. Nonetheless, most of these papers will get lost by the end of the day or, in the best of cases, by the end of the week, so your effort will have been in vain. On the other hand, if you use a computer when creating these memos, the situation changes completely and your texts will be safe (unless the PC crashes, but that's another cup of tea).

Therefore, you will need an easy-to-use application to do the remembering for you, and YellowMemo will do just that: store the data you enter, display transparent boxes on the desktop and alert you when a deadline approaches, all of these according to the configuration you set up.

Now let's enlarge on the configuration details, better said, on the customization you can apply to the default settings because there isn't much you can do about the app's functionality. Nonetheless, this fault is compensated by the fact that you can choose to change almost any color and font found within YellowMemo therefore it will integrate smoothly with your desktop wallpaper and Windows theme. To prove my point, I will have to mention that you can adjust not only the memos' colors, but also the alarms' and, if you are an artistic nature, you can settle for complementary or contrasting hues and use the notes to add a bit of style to an otherwise common and dull desktop.

Another good thing about YellowMemo is that besides the colors, you can also alter the transparency level so that the application does not cover up your wallpaper, thus preserving its aspect, but you can still read the memos you wrote for yourself. Come to think of it, you can also write these notes for other users of your computer when you want to send a message and to make sure that
they get the job done. In other words, a modern replacement for the traditional "note on the fridge."

Getting back to the software in discussion, I will only remind you that you can change the fonts displayed in the memos, and I will not go any deeper on this subject because you all know the standard types and surely have your own favorites that you will probably use for YellowMemo as well.

Moving on to the alerts' sound, you will be pleased to find out that you can employ your preferred audio track, that is, you are not confined to a limited number of (usually) annoying alarms, as is the case with other applications. This way, you can strengthen the visual impact of the reminders with relevant songs that you believe will motivate you to get to work or to the scheduled appointment.

The Good

You can schedule events up to 21 days before the actual deadline so you can easily organize your duties even if you have a lot of responsibilities and tasks to complete.

A great thing is that you will be able to launch various websites if their URL is written in the memo by simply clicking the first button in the upper-right corner (remember this description, as there is no hint towards its functionality). Also, make sure the URL contains http://, otherwise it will not be recognized as a web address.

The Bad

The application informs you on all the missed alarms, but there is not much you can do about them if they are in the past - you can solve this by launching YellowMemo at startup, and you won't have this problem.

Its features are quite basic, especially when you consider the price ($ 29.95) - for example, it would have helped to be able to attach or insert certain files (pictures, for example), instead of plain text. On the other hand, try to keep the notes' input as short as possible, otherwise you will fill up your desktop with pages of text, as YellowMemo will display quite a large part of your message.

The Truth

Overall, YellowMemo is quite good in its range and 30 days are more than enough to realize whether it can be useful to you - if what you're looking for is an application that simply displays your messages in the color and type of lettering you prefer, and also reminds you of the deadlines, then YellowMemo might be an option to take into consideration.

Here are some snapshots of the application in action:
