Can you imagine a computer without a mouse? A notebook could fit this description, but even a notebook is easier to handle using the old fashion mouse. The mouse is the most common option to navigate your way through files and folders, open or close programs, make selections, create new files and use all the options and features that third party applications offer without any effort. But there are other ways to execute commands without using the keyboard, menus or toolbars: through mouse gestures.

Many people tend to use keyboard shortcuts to speed up various operations and mouse gestures mostly when browsing to quickly navigate through tabs and web pages, but the use of mouse gestures can surely be transposed and utilized in your most common actions when you're interacting with the PC.

To do this you will need a small and simple application, namely gMote. gMote is a straight-forward software that will simplify your actions on the computer and help you perform everyday tasks more quicker and hassle free. Even more, the application is free to use and can be run from any portable media, thus making it very convenient and indispensable.

From the first time you run it, gMote will impress you with its very intuitive interface. Here you can access all the tools you need to create new mouse gestures and replace those old and twisted keyboard shortcuts. The application comes with six predefined gestures that serve as an example of what it can do. You can choose to keep these gestures or modify them to suit your needs, the choice is yours.

Returning to the functional part of the application, creating a new mouse gesture is as easy as left click and drag to trace the gesture with your mouse in the recording area. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination, gMote allowing you to record even complex mouse gestures with the condition that later you can reproduce them with ease and accuracy. For an easier recognition of your gesture, when recording you must perform it very slowly.

To these gestures you can assign various tasks: from browser control to text insertion, program, folder or file launch, keystrokes, key combinations and other Windows tasks that you normally do using your keyboard, menus or any other way.

The best part and one thing that surpasses all other mouse gesture utilities out there is the fact that you can assign the same mouse gesture to perform other actions in different applications. So if you assign a mouse gesture to open a specific folder, using the same mouse gesture in a browser could refresh the selected page or open a new tab etc.

For some, a small inconvenient can be the fact that if other applications allow you to perform mouse gestures, as the latest browsers do, this option will be disabled while gMote is active. This shouldn't bother you very much for the simple fact that you can assign the same gestures to those applications through gMote.

Another solution would be to change the way you make the desired gestures. For that, gMote comes with five different ways to use them, from the simple right click and drag to keyboard and mouse combinations that will not interfere with other applications.

This is very useful when you want to assign similar gestures to various applications to make your work easier. It will not only save you a lot of concentration remembering one of your numerous gestures, but will streamline your work with multiple programs at the same time. Through gMote you can control as many applications as you want without being limited by anything. To quickly add your applications to gMote, the software will display the last 10 programs you used recently, so you won't need to browse and search manually.

To facilitate your work even more, gMote allows you to save your gestures as individual sets for specific use. You can quickly save your newly made set or load a new one, with a push of a button, to comply with your current activity. If you have applications that interfere with the way this software performs mouse gestures, you can add those programs to a list and, when these apps are detected gMote will be automatically disabled.

After trying gMote I'm sure you will wonder how did you manage to work at your computer without it. You will simply love the way it will help you reduce task execution time and increase efficiency at work or just provide you with ways to enhance the user experience when sitting at your PC.

The Good

gMote is a lightweight and easy to use application that will greatly improve user experience when browsing your favorite websites, working or just exploring your computer, which means a gesture is all it takes to make everything possible.

The Bad

It would be great if gMote would support controlling more media players besides the old Windows Media Player and provide special features for many other popular applications.

The Truth

gMote will surely find a place in your trustworthy collection of utilities making everything a gesture away. From media players, browsers, explorers to work related applications, all will have something in common, a simple mouse gesture to control them all.
