sfxApp Creator

Most application require special entries and permissions to some Windows features and registries so they can properly function. This makes them usable only on the machine they are deployed, with portable versions allowing you to use them from other computers as well. In this regard, sfxApp Creator gives you the possibility to create a portable version of nearly everything installed on your computer.

The application comes in a small package that does not require any deployment. The main window, pretty compact, but intuitive lets you quickly accommodate. Equipped with only a few requirement fields, the result is provided pretty fast, considering the target program is not large.

Although dragging folders over the main window has no effect, the provided file explorer suffices. Once the target application is selected, all detected executable files are enlisted in a drop-down menu so that you can choose the proper one.

Hitting the “Create sfxApp” button triggers the whole creation process, but only after you choose a destination folder. Unfortunately, you are prompted for each process, without any option to set a default folder.

What's more, a little bit of patience is required and even though the application might seem to never get the job done for large applications, take your time because everything goes smooth. However, it would have been useful to have a detailed progress slider displayed.

The resulting file is only an EXE that stores the content of the target folder. A major advantage is that you can also select installed applications to process and even though they are not deployed on your system anymore, functionality is not affected. Amongst our tests, we targeted both portable and applications that need to be installed, like web browsers, keeping settings intact.

All things considered, sfxApp Creator fully lives up to expectations, giving you the possibility to take all applications used on a regular basis everywhere you go. What's more, all components required for the target program to run are conveniently wrapped in a single file, further increasing sfxApp Creator's practicability.
