ownCloud

Similar to Dropbox, ownCloud is a simple-to-use software program that enables you to store private files on a server online, in order to easily access them from another computer and other supported devices, or share them with other people. It can be used for both personal and business purposes.

The tool does not include complicated features or configuration preferences, making it accessible to most types of users, even the ones less experienced in such software.

Setting up ownCloud is a quick and easy job that does not impose any difficulties. Initially it is necessary to connect to a previously created ownCloud account and specify the server address, in order to continue with the wizard steps and set up the application in no time.

Once linked to the account, you can easily access ownCloud from the taskbar notifications area while working in any other application, in order to swiftly upload files. It is possible to synchronize all content from specified directories, as well as to upload data to an ownCloud folder, local directory or remote location via URL.

We have not come across any unpleasant surprises in our tests, since ownCloud did not hang, crash or display error notifications. It is very responsive to commands and runs on low CPU and RAM, so it does not hog system resources. Although it is not as feature-rich as other similar file sharing tools, ownCloud is straightforward and very simple to use by anyone.
