Spending time on various websites that have attached comments sections always brings with it the unfortunate chance of witnessing malevolent, mean or even offensive “comments battles”. Unless these are well-filtered by administrators, users are left with no choice than to ignore them or use a dedicated extension, such as Shut Up for Firefox. Also available for Chrome, it will allow one to easily hide the comments on the required websites and thus avoid any unnecessary exposure to unwanted content.

Installing the extension is pretty standard and does not require any special configuration steps on users’ side. Its icon will appear in-line with the navigation bar and enabling its function can be done either by clicking on it or using the context menu entry.

The fact that the extension integrates itself in the context menu, allows users to block comments more comfortably, right where their mouse cursor is currently located.

There are very few options in the extension’s settings and we believe that this is ideal, as it keeps things simple and after all, it does its job quite well. Speaking of simple, the enabling/disabling of comments can also be accessed by using the “Ctrl + Shift + X” key combination.

Nevertheless, if for instance, one has websites where comments are kept enabled, a dedicated option will permit the extension to always remember those websites and allow the browser to display them accordingly.

This Firefox extension can be a real life-saver if you wish to get rid of all that offensive or unwanted content almost always present somewhere in the comments section of certain websites.
