DuckDuckGo for Opera

Nowadays, the number of people that look for an alternative to the already established search engines is on the rise. Privacy concerns and pushed results are at the top of the pyramid when it comes to the reason for wanting alternatives. DuckDuckGo is here for more than a decade, but it started to get some traction several years ago, and it can be added to most popular browsers, like Opera, for example.

After the add-on is installed, its icon becomes available on the extensions bar. Keep in mind that every time you want to search with DuckDuckGo, you have to access that menu. The small UI comes with a search field, a couple of special features, and a list of Bangs, which we'll present later. The special features are actively changing the search behavior, so you have to research them a bit before employing them.

For example, if you check the I am feeling Ducky box and search for something, automatically takes you to the page of the first result. Besides, you have several more options like Safe Search, Show Meanings, show debug info, etc.

In case you don't want to employ any of the available features or bangs, you can hit the minus sign near the search field. This way, the interface gets retracted, allowing searches only.

If you take a quick look at the bangs, you can see the names of some of the most popular services out there, and if clicked on, you will be redirected to their sites. In short, the bangs are shortcuts that help you search for stuff directly on those websites, without manual access. 

By default, the menu holds only seven bangs, but if you click on More Bangs, a huge list of over 10.000 bangs will be provided. Sadly, you cannot replace the default entries, but you can employ different ones from the library.

DuckDuckGo for Opera is a simple solution for users who are tired of how Google or other search engines track their activity and manipulate the results. The installation and operation are straightforward, so you don't need too much research in order to use it. Hopefully, more apps like these find their way into the market, providing us with more ways to achieve our goals.
