Constantly worrying about the quality of your Internet connection can become annoying and tiresome at the same time. If you find yourself having to check the Internet connection a lot lately, then you will surely be interested what an apparently simple, but very efficient app by the name of OverSite has to offer.

In short, OverSite is a ping-checker, internet connection-checker that allows you to keep an eye on your internet connection by monitoring well-known websites. It uses a mechanism called Internet Control Message Protocol (or commonly known as “ping”) to determine if a website is either up or down.

The best thing is that the app allows you to monitor any number of websites, and also provides you with a timeline which clearly displays the up and down times. As described by the app’s graph legend (which can be turned on or off), the graph represents the up/down times of the site watcher that is currently selected in the list. The bars show periods when the computer is sleeping, when OverSite was not running, the required number of sites that responded to pings, or websites with less than ideal ping responses.

Even though OverSite is a very simple app at its core, it does pack a few extra features which will make it even more worth your while. Because most users will most likely want to use the tool to monitor their internet connection with the least amount of hassle, OverSite creates site watchers automatically first time they run.

The app can work with literally any website just as long as it accepts pings. The sites must be a host name or an IP address, and the site cannot start with the “http” or “https” elements. By default, the internet watchers contain sites such as Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo!, big websites that are always online. Of course, you may add sites, or remove and delete them if you do so choose.

Before we conclude, it’s also worth noting that OverSite requires the presence of .NET Framework 4.6.1 in order to run. OverSite is surprisingly user-friendly tool that does its job rather well and should appeal to users of all levels.
