Testing an IRC client can be difficult when connecting to an external server, as there are many functions that are unavailable and commands that can cause issues or even get you in trouble if they are used.
IRCD Server/Simulator is a small application that lets you run a local server which simulates the behavior of popular IRC server networks in order to help you test your software in a realistic environment, and without causing other problems.
After going through the simple installation process, you can launch the application and start the server right away. All active servers will be listed in the left-hand panel, along with details such as their port number, number of listening sockets and number of connections.
On the right-hand side of the UI, you can see a log that displays all events for you to analyze later. You can even choose which types of events should be shown and which should be hidden.
Once you’ve started the server, you can use any IRC client to connect to it. All you need is the IP address of the host computer, or you can just use “localhost” if the client is run from the same PC.
The client can communicate with the server using various commands, and this program can be very helpful if you want to try out certain commands without getting into trouble or causing other issues.
If you don’t know what you are doing, it can take a little while to get the hang of things and figure out how you can use the server to your advantage. Thankfully, though a comprehensive user manual is included to help you out.
Overall, IRCD Server/Simulator is a handy utility for users who wish to test IRC clients or learn how to use various commands. It isn’t difficult to set up, and it provides you with detailed documentation.
