If you are working from home and want to keep in touch with business associates and partners, then having high-quality video communication is one of the must-have things. The good news is that if you happen to have a Canon DSLR camera, then you can use it as your webcam.
While still in Beta version, Canon EOS Webcam Utility is a simple tool that packs a set of registries to unlock webcam-like capabilities for several EOS Interchangeable Lens and PowerShot cameras. Among the supported devices that work with the tool you can count various EOS Rebel, EOS-1D, EOS 5D, EOS M6 as well as PowerShot G5X, G7X and SX70 cameras. As noted by the developer, the software is for use only in the United States for the time being and is nor supported outside the area.
Following the quick installation of the tool, all you need to do is connect the camera to the desktop or laptop via the USB cable and you should be able to view your Canon camera available as a video source for video conferencing apps. As far as the support goes, the app works with most of the standard tools you commonly use for video conferences, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and BlueJeans.
