If you have an older or cheaper webcam, the image quality it provides is probably not that impressive. A top tier webcam is expensive, but the powerful camera integrated into your Apple device can prove to be a great alternative.

iVCam is a clever application that enables you to connect to your iPhone or iPad’s webcam wirelessly and use the device’s integrated camera as a webcam. It works together with the iOS iVCam app, and it is very easy to set up.

After setting up the desktop program, you will need to visit the App Store and get the iVCam iOS app. Both applications require almost no configuration, as you just need to ensure they are both on the same wireless network.

A connection should be established automatically, and you will now be able to see through both of your iPhone or iPad’s cameras. There are even some simple image controls that you can play around with in the mobile app.

As you can see from the screenshots, iVCam isn’t exactly a complex program. First-time users should not run into any issues, and the interface features an intuitive layout.

Using the buttons in the bottom-right corner of the UI, you can take snapshots and even record a video. From the settings, you can change the video orientation, size and framerate, as well as the video and audio quality.

Videos and snapshots are saved to your Videos folder, but it does not seem to be possible to select a different path.

IVCam is an interesting application for users who don’t have a high-quality webcam and wish to use their iPhone or iPad instead. It doesn’t offer a lot of advanced features, but it is very simple to set up.
