There are also specialized third-party alternatives, and Computer Talker is the type of app which speaks your text out loud.

On the bright side of things, you don’t even have to go through a setup process to make the application work. Apart from the time and effort you save, this also means that you can carry the application with you on a USB flash drive in case you want to use it on other PCs, without affecting stability because registry entries are not altered.

One more thing needs to be taken into account before you can enjoy all it has to offer, and that’s whether or not .NET Framework is on your computer. The visual design keeps things pretty simple, with a large text space for input, and the trigger button. Effort on your behalf is narrowed down to writing or pasting the desired string or paragraph.

Since the actual style of the text of no importance, the application is not fitted with any kind of customization options related to text. Input either means taking the time to write a paragraph, or using the paste function to insert it from the clipboard.

Unfortunately, there’s no option to have text automatically read as it’s typed or with a short delay, and you need to hit the trigger button. What’s more, the application only relies on a single voice configuration, and it doesn’t come with other options in this regard, even though you find more options even in the default set of Windows options.

All things considered, we can state that Computer Talker is a pretty straightforward text-to-speech application. It can come in handy in situations when you need a particular paragraph read out loud, and it would have been useful to see a function to save a recording as audio file.
