PrintKey 2000 is a screen capture program that, despite being released nearly two decades ago, still seems to work mostly error-free on the latest operating systems. It comes with a bunch of useful features, but it is certainly showing its age.

Even though it can be considered ancient at this point, PrintKey 2000 offers most of the features you would expect to find in a modern screen capture utility. It lets you capture the entire desktop, a specified area of a single object, and it offers support for global hotkeys.

On top of that, the application comes equipped with a basic editor. You can add various visual effects and change the color balance, as well as resize the picture. For more complex operations, you can open it with your preferred image editor.

You can tell how old the application is by the number of printing-related features that are included. You can customize the print output directly from the main UI, as well as configure the application to print screenshots directly.

However, it is worth noting that the program cannot export images to PNG, a format that has become very popular over the years. Also, you cannot insert watermarks when saving your screenshots.

It should come as no surprise that the application’s GUI looks noticeably out-of-date. If you’re feeling nostalgic enough to use it, however, this shouldn’t be a big issue.

In short, PrintKey 2000 is a surprisingly capable screenshot capture utility from the pre-Windows XP era. It still seems to work fine under the latest versions of the operating system, though some users have reported occasional crashes on Windows 10.
