YUV File Player

YUV File Player is a program with a name that pretty much describes its functionality - it allows you to play clips with the YUV format. But it also supports the RAW extension.

This is a portable piece of software, so installing YUV File Player is not necessary. It means that you can store the tool on a USB flash drive or any other removable device, save it to any computer and directly run its executable file.

Thus, you can carry YUV File Player in your pocket whenever you're on the move. What's more important is that the Windows Registry is not updated with new entries, and no leftover files can be found on the hard drive after program removal.

The app is packed in a plain interface with an intuitive layout. Upon initialization, you can use the file browser to locate and open a video, as well as establish its width, height, frame rate and format.

You can use some standard media player, such as pause and stop. But you can also alter the speed of the video (full, half, quarter, ignore) and toggle the viewing mode between combined and separate fields.

On the downside, the program does not include any configurable settings, such as making it minimize to the system tray or to automatically exit after playback. Plus, you cannot navigate back and forth within the video by moving a slider. However, you can use keyboard shortcuts to go back or foward one or ten frames at a time, rewind the clip, fast forward to the last frame, as well as copy the current snapshots to the Clipboard; the commands are displayed in the 'Help' Screen.

YUV File Player runs on a low amount of CPU and system memory, so it shouldn't be a concern for the computer's resources. It has a good response time and worked smoothly during our evaluation, without freezing, crashing or displaying error dialogs. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity, YUV File Player's features can be easily figured out, even by inexperienced users. No recent updates have been made.
