VSDC Free Video Converter

VSDC Free Video Converter contains extensive options and configuration parameters dedicated to audio and video conversion.

It is able to read a wide range of formats such as AVI, MPG, WMV, SWF, MKV and DVD movies, as well as to produce media compatible with PCs, DVDs, iPods, mobile phones, PSP, and other popular devices.

The program comprises numerous options which seemingly clutter the interface, at least until you get used to it. Most of them are accessible through the ribbon bar.

It is possible to import files, whole directories and DVD contents, preview clips in a built-in media player, pick the audio and video tracks, select an output profile and directory, and start conversion.

VSDC Free Video Converter features a few preset profiles and lets advanced users create their own ones by editing audio and video settings (e.g. codec, bit rate, aspect correction, resolution, size, frame rate). Other options are capable of merging or splitting videos by markers or size, showing file properties, as well as of burning movies to disc using a built-in tool.

The program uses low-to-moderate CPU and RAM, so it shouldn't put a strain on computer performance. It carries out conversion tasks relatively fast and delivers fair quality clips. Unfortunately, VSDC Free Video Converter crashed several times during our tests (on Windows 7 64-bit), right after initializing conversion.

While excluding this aspect, the application is pretty resourceful when it comes to preparing media files for various devices, and it should please all users, whether they are experienced in video conversion software or not.
