If you're trying to become more disciplined at work, you can use tools that monitor computer activity and give you a clear idea of what you're doing wrong (probably spending too much time on social networks) and how you can fix it.
ScreenAware Time Tracker can keep you company while you're working on projects by running in the background and watching your every move. It's a time tracker that silently monitors your computer's activity and generates web-based reports with time allocated to projects.
The app is capable of monitoring all active processes. New trackable projects can be created by specifying a name, keywords (later useful for filtering data across many projects), and directory.
As soon as everything's working properly, ScreenAware collects data on time spent inside the watched folder, whether you're creating new files and subfolders, deleting data, writing text in a document, using an app that resides in that folder, or anything else.
During this, the tool runs in the systray. The tracking status can be accessed from the tray icon's right-click menu, where it's possible to view reports, manage projects, and pause tracking.
Reports are available in the dashboard, which can be viewed in a web browser. Here you can check out activity details on all your projects and (very important) no projects. Basically, all time you spent slacking on the PC is summed up and revealed in the "No Project" section.
Activity details include time used for each running process. What's more, you can check out a timesheet, filter data by keywords, as well as export everything to an Excel file (.xlsx format).
To be able to use this tool, it's necessary to create a free account using an email address and password (no confirmation required). This means that all your project info can be synced across devices. The supported web browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Microsoft Edge and Safari. It's also compatible with macOS.
On his website, the developer mentions some features that we failed to identify, like the ability to import projects or to pick which processes to track. On the other hand, we must also take into account that ScreenAware Time Tracker is new and currently in beta, so there's plenty of room for improvements.
We are completely on board with the concept behind the app and cannot wait to see what further updates will bring. It plans to facilitate a reliable platform for correctly matching time spent on projects and helping you provide accurate customer billing.
