Metadata Cleaner

Metadata Cleaner is an intuitive and easy to use software that grants you the possibility to remove or replace metadata for Word documents, Excel spreadsheets or PowerPoint presentations. You can easily remove those pieces of information that were attributed to your file when you created it, but you wish to hide from other users.

The software features an analysis function and a cleaning feature. The Analysis implies that the software reads hidden metadata from a file, if it exists, and displays it in a detailed list. It can process a single file at a time, or scan entire folders and subfolders in order to identify the supported files.

Metadata Cleaner can only process files created with Office 2007 or earlier, with the .DOC, .XLS or .PPT extensions, and not the newer versions: DOCX, XLSX or PPTX. The reason is simple: the documents created with the newer versions do not include metadata any more, unlike the previous file types.

The software enables you to erase any unwanted metadata from a file that contains such information. You can easily erase the file title, subject, key words, comments, revision count, hidden revision log, or the unique identifier. Pieces of information such as “Last edited by” or “Last saved by” may be erased from the file’s data.

Not only may you erase metadata, but in some cases, you can replace it with the specified information. Thus, the name of the Author, as well as Company may be replaced, if the option is enabled.

The software can process individual files or batches of documents in a matter of seconds, erasing hidden data or information you do not wish to share.
