Although there is a multitude of programs and online platforms that offer map services and mapping functionality, having the ability to have such content available in an online context, can make a difference, especially when the lack of an Internet connection is pressing. Far from actually using screen capture to save images for the preferred areas, users can rely on specialized tools, such as Offline Map Maker, which will allow them for a more detailed, customizable download of map content from various platforms, such as Google, Bing, Yahoo and more.

Right from the start, one aspect that struck us when testing the app was the ample amount of map types available in the download selector. Users have access to a plethora of map providers, ranging from the more common, up to more detailed, niche-type ones.

Aside from selecting the preferred service provider, users can also opt for visualizing the map content, by relying on the included map viewer, which can be used in conjuncture with the map combiner.

It is nice to see that users have the choice of either manually inputting the coordinates for their area of interest, or, select a KML or GPX format polygon area for instantly determining the download selection.

However, it would have been nice to also see a dedicated map viewer selector, which could allow one to perform the selection much faster, using panning and actual drawing techniques for determining the area that is to be downloaded.
