Because of its potential, processing power, as well as storage capacity, the computer is used in nearly all domains of activity. Records and databases make it easier to keep track of tons of individuals, objects, as well as info, and database files and types can differ. A simple one is under the CSV (comma separated values) and can be edited with a plain text editor, but it’s better off to use dedicated editors like RecordEditor Portable.
In case you haven’t figured it out by now, this application is the version of RecordEditor that doesn’t take you through a setup process and can also be stored on an USB Flash drive along with your CSV files to use on the go. However, you need not forget that the PC you’re running it on needs to be equipped with Java Runtime Environment.
The application focuses more on providing an extensive set of features rather than offering a pleasant view. However, this can have an impact on accommodation, as features seem to be chaotically placed, or pretty difficult to identify.
Nonetheless, you’re faced with an initial screen that asks how and what operations you want to perform. This can either mean opening an existing file, or choosing to create a new one from scratch. In terms of file support, the application does a pretty good job at opening more than CSV, with the possibility to also load AMS, EDI, and several other formats.
Before they load, you get to configure the amount of info you want to view, as well as how it’s separated in tables. You can have multiple projects opened at a time, thanks to implemented tab support.
Editing benefits from a decent amount of options and you can freely modify values on the spot. Scripts can be created and launched, and you can also import or export XML schemas. When you’re done, the application can save the current file, or export it under various database formats, such as XML, CSV, HTML, XSL, and more.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that RecordEditor Portable is a powerful application for editing CSV files. However, it can take some time to get to know it, because of the poorly-designed interface. Nonetheless, if you manage to bypass this inconvenience, various editing options are to be found, as well as decent file support.
