Mute on Lock Portable

Made the portable counterpart of Mute on Lock, this is a lightweight and highly intuitive tool that you can use to rapidly mute system volume right before leaving the workstation.

This can be done by either clicking an icon or triggering a hotkey. Thanks to its simple options, the app can be handled even by rookies.

As Mute on Lock's packed in portable format, you can save the program files anywhere on the disk or on a removable storage unit, and directly launch the application on any computer to quickly turn off its sounds. More importantly, unlike most installers, it doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry.

Once launched, the utility creates an icon in the taskbar notifications area and sits there silently without interrupting your regular PC activity.

The application is enabled by default, which means that you can either double-click the tray icon or trigger a keyboard shortcut to toggle the speakers volume.

As far as app customization is concerned, you can modify the default hotkeys for enabling/disabling sounds, as well as for exiting Mute on Lock.

What's more, you can change the action on the icon's double click from enabling/disabling Mute on Lock to muting/unmuting sounds or bringing up this options panel. Lastly, the tool can be set to automatically run at every Windows startup until further notice.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages in our tests. It had minimal impact on the overall performance of the machine, running on low CPU and memory.

However, it didn't have an effect on the system in several cases in our tests (on Windows 7 Professional). To be more specific, it didn't mute the speakers volume. Nevertheless, you can test Mute on Lock yourself, since it's free.
