Version Information Editor

Version Information Editor is an advanced tool for experienced users, such as programmers. It gives them the possibility to analyze, edit and export version information associated with applications, by putting at their disposal a bunch of practical options and configuration settings.

After a speedy setup operation that shouldn't impose any difficulties, you're greeted by a user-friendly interface made from a normal window with a simple design and neatly organized layout, where you can get started by specifying the resource compiler and command lines for compiling source files (with SRC or BIN placeholders).

It's possible to examine fixed file information (e.g. OS, type, subtype, flags, flag masks), translation details (language, character set) and string data, such as comments, company name, file description and version, internal name, legal copyright and trademark, original file name, along with private and special build.

This information can be edited and saved to version info files (.vi format) or exported to resource source files (.rc format). Moreover, you can view RC statements, remove any field from the info list, view analysis errors (if any), edit RC identified and comments or VI comments, or copy data to the Clipboard. Meanwhile, Version Information Editor can be asked to automatically validate info and to describe file flags.

It worked smoothly in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or prompt error messages. We haven't encountered any unpleasant surprises in our tests as far as compatibility goes. CPU and RAM consumption was minimal, so it didn't affect PC performance.
