A simple, yet useful application that aims to provide a fast method for helping programmers format HTML, CSS or Javascript source code. #Format source code #Optimize code #Source code optimization #Source code #Format #Optimize
Even with all required knowledge, programming is overwhelming, and easy to become frustrating. Moreover, different styles use specific formatting types, and depending on the editor used to write text, code identification can be yet another issue. However, specialized applications like Code Optimizer can help bring a little order in the entire code.
On the one hand, the application is built so that it can only run on an operating system where .NET Framework is installed. On the other hand, it does not require any installation in order to function, since it’s portable, making it easy to carry around and use on other computers, without having to worry about the stability of the target PC, because registry entries are not modified in the process.
The main window is pretty compact, but can be resized to allow more preview, and edit space. Since you get to edit, more precisely optimize code, most of the space is interactive, allowing you to make manual tweaks, in case the application doesn’t quite manage to optimize the code as you expected.
You don’t actually get to work with any kind of files, with no built-in browse dialog, or possibility to drag and drop anything. The default editor also needs to be close by, so you can copy and paste the text inside the edit area. Target programming languages only include HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. An additional option is to remove multiple spaces.
Hitting the “Optimize” button processes the inserted text, with different styles, depending on the selected code. However, this optimization can do more harm than good, especially as far as HTML is concerned, because the entire code is placed on a single line, regardless whether you choose to remove or keep multiple blank spaces.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Code Optimizer comes with good intentions, but the optimization process itself doesn’t really help, with little to no management options, while code arrangement, is ambiguously done, causing more frustration, and making code identification close to impossible after processing.
