Hewlett-Packard's Pioneer series of pocket calculators seems to be a very sought-after collection of scientific items. A scientific calculator is different from a general-purpose calculator through its graphical or symbolical capabilities. Being able to symbolically dealing with equations, these products were quickly adopted by business and scientific branches.
Because their production was ended a long time ago, Pioneer calculators are still highly valued, and an application like Emu42 offer those interested in such devices a way to emulate them. Even if you cannot get your hands on the real deal, you can give them a spin as virtual, extracted images.
HP10B, HP14B, HP17B, HP17BII, HP20S, HP21S, HP22S, HP27S, HP32S, HP32SII, HP42S, and two clamshell models like HP19BII and HP28S can be set up as virtual interfaces.
To get an idea about the images, run the app and launch a KML script. The app sport a neat collection of scripts that generate any of the desired models. The newly created interface will behave just like the real product, allowing the user to test run any calculator.
The ROM image can be considered the device's mind, and each model has a specific one. Without the ROM images of each Pioneer model, Emu42 cannot be of much help. The images are not included in the package, mostly due to licensing concerns. However, the developer offers extensive documentation on how to extract ROM images, including from clamshell models.
In short, Emu42 is a niche tool dedicated to individuals who wish to try the famous Pioneer calculators, even in emulated form. However, settings things up won't be done effortlessly, as external hardware and knowledge in the field are both required.
