Spirograph

Art is made out of anything that inspires the creator to get a certain feeling and desire to share it with others. However, a scientific type of art can be created using Spirograph, being exactly what the name suggests, putting needed tools at your disposal to play with certain mathematical formulas to obtain visually appealing images.

In the real world, Spirograph was mainly used and discovered for the sake of groundbreaking mathematical achievements and round area calculations. Easily did the phenomena get out of control and became a toy with which stunning drawings are created, winning the Toy of the Year award some time back.

The application lets you do exactly the same thing, with several requirement fields at your disposal with which to create rotating objects, the traces of which combine into a pretty picture. The interface is simple, with not a lot of time or effort needed to be invested into learning how to use the application.

You get to work with layers and a default spinning model you can easily manipulate. There is no limit to the number of layers you can add, with the possibility to toggle visibility so you can better edit the initial form of the object.

Amongst the details you can edit, stator and rotor are dedicated to overall size, shape being determined by rotor slide, X/Y origins, pen distance, stretch, rotations, angles and more. Unfortunately, these can only be modified by imputing the desired value in a dedicated field, using your mouse to interact with the object having no effect whatsoever.

There are even several samples in case you're having problems figuring out how to create a visually appealing drawing. When you get a result it can be saved to some of the most commonly used image file types or uploaded to an online community along with others from all around the world.

Spirograph is far from being just a method of passing time. If you get caught in its magic, you most likely get to spent a great amount of time positioning stators and rotors to get stunning visuals out of something created out of pure mathematics. Don't forget, real life replicas won the award for world's best toy so it must be at least a little bit fun.
