While the Windows embedded Notepad provides a simple and straightforward way to take notes, and may be suitable for writing down important data, it offers little protection. Steganos LockNote is a lightweight application designed to offer a solution for anyone who wants to secure their notes and sensitive information.

The application doesn’t require installation and comes with a minimalistic interface where you can start writing down notes and other information right away. The GUI may seem bare or empty, but, frankly, this is not really a downside considering the role and nature of the tool. In terms of customization, the tool includes a few fonts and sizes, so you can highlight certain elements of your note.

As previously mentioned, what sets this program apart is that you can secure the data under a password and advanced AES 256-bit encryption. You need to close the app for the changes to take place, and you will be asked for the passcode next time you open it.

You can write down any type of information you want, including, but not limited to, passwords and serial numbers. By creating LockNotes for each set of sensitive data and applying password protection, you add an extra layer of security. Now, even if someone gains access to your computer, they won't be able to view the content without the correct password.

The second version of Steganos LockNote is an upgrade from the 2006 edition, and is equipped with support for High Definition displays (HDPI), new fonts, multilingual support, and upgraded encryption and password derivation technology.
