Effortlessly compute hashes, checksums, and HMAC values for texts, hex strings, and basically any other type of file with the help of this old yet still relevant app. #Hash Calculator #Calculate Checksum #Generate Hash #Hash #Calculator #MD5
Nowadays, there are a lot of ways to check the hash of files. One way is to use an online tool, however, if you're a bit weary of online tools and you prefer a more "local" solution, then you can choose an app such as HashCalc to get the job done.
As its name clearly states, HashCalc is a straightforward, Windows-only utility that can help you calculate/generate a cryptographic checksum for your files.
This is especially useful when you want to verify the integrity of any downloaded file by comparing its hash on your computer with the one displayed on the producer's official website.
One of the best parts about HashCalc is the fact that it comes with support for some of the most popular hash and checksum algorithms.
These include MD2, MD4, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2( 256, 384, 512), RIPEMD-160, PANAMA, TIGER, ADLER32, and CRC32.
There are two modes of calculation: Hash/Checksum and HMAC. It's also worth noting that the app supports three types of input formats: files, text strings, and hex strings. This means that HashCalc can pretty much work with all types of files you throw at it: audio files, videos, archives, documents, you name it.
While it won't win any awards in terms of looks, HashCalc's GUI is pretty straightforward and clear.
The tool features a typical layout for apps of this sort. To calculate a hash, simply select the "File" format, and use the built-in browser to import a file from its respective path.
It works great with small files (with instant results), however, according to the developer, it's also capable of processing larger files as well (tested up to 15 GB).
To conclude, HashCalc is a hum-drum yet very efficient little app that can help you generate instant hashes for your files. It works great on Windows 10, even though it was developed more than a decade ago.
