Having an older computer can sometimes require you to protect it from high resource-consuming programs and other similar components, if you want to keep it running at satisfactory speeds.

Although many of them offer protection against various harmful factors, certain Windows updates might unnecessarily slow down your PC. Fortunately, there are a few programs that can help you turn off certain features that you do not need for the moment. One of these applications is GWX Stopper.

This utility comes with a minimalistic user interface that encompasses a single function. Thanks to its simplicity, most of the users can use it, regardless of their PC operating skills, as it does not integrate complicated functions.

It can be installed quickly and without great efforts, which adds to its overall accessibility. When you first launch it, the program automatically detects if GWX is currently installed and running on your computer.

If the application does not detect the above process on your PC, you do not need to use it any further. However, if GWX is identified, this utility only displays a red, large “Stop GWX!” button.

Clicking the aforementioned button instantly removes the unwanted process from your computer and prevents it from launching at startup. This program needs to be used only once.

On the bright side, removing GWX is not a permanent process, as it is possible to revert it to its original state anytime you want. This application only renames the source folder of GWX to “GWX-”, thus preventing Windows' Task Scheduler from accessing it. If you want to turn it back on, you just need to rename the directory back to “GWX”.
