The mouse and keyboard have been along for quite a while as default input devices, and are not going to be fully replaced any time soon. Let’s say your mouse fails to properly function and you really need it at least for the time being. Numpad Mouse cleverly handles this issue, providing alternative control of the cursor using numpad buttons.
The applications stays minimized to the tray area for the duration of use, just so it doesn’t take up any precious disk space. Portability is even a greater advantage, enabling you to have this backup options wherever you go on a USB flash drive. Running it doesn’t make any changes to system registries.
It’s best to pay a visit to the documentation file first, because you might not be aware of the impressive functionality of the application, since the tray menu is only fitted with the option to pause the script.
Assigned default controls are pretty intuitive, even though they can’t be modified. Using 2, 4, 6, and 8 buttons on the numpad moves the cursor in appropriate directions, and hitting Ctrl + * (asterisk) brings up a configuration panel with which to adjust mouse stepping points, as well as movement speed.
You’re not limited to movement, with the application handling mouse buttons as well. Left, right, and middle buttons are included. Moreover, there’s also a special toggleable button which emulates press and hold of the left mouse button so you can easily drag items, and windows around.
The application allows up to configure up to four desktop hotspots through which to instantly launch custom programs. You can save cursor location to preferred location as bookmarks, and instantly teleport the cursor there at any given moment. There’s also a built-in notepad tool with an alarm system to use as scheduler.
Numpad Mouse is a lot more than just a simple mouse emulator. Although it can be a little tricky to learn until you analyze the documentation file, it’s packed with enough variety, and customization options so you don’t even miss the mouse if it actually breaks down.
