Playlists are the kind of files that skip you the time and effort of selecting the multimedia files you want to play every time you just want to enjoy your collection of songs or some clips. Depending on content, these file formats can differ, and with the help of applications like W7 Video Playlist Creator you can create them for video files.
The first noticeable thing is you don’t have to go through a setup process to make the application work, which means it can easily be used from a USB flash drive on a different computer as well. However the target PC needs to be equipped with .NET Framework for things to go as planned.
The main window is pretty compact, but enough to let you build a video playlist in a few seconds, or minutes. Unfortunately, you can’t just drop files over the main window to get them ready, but the built-in dialog also shows you the abundance of video files you can open, such as WTV, DVR, AVI, MP4, MP3, WMV, 3GP, SHN, AMR, MPC, OFR, AC3, MKA, APE, DIVX, EVO, FLAC, FLV, F4V, HD, M4B, MKV, MOV, and some more.
However, the application can only serve you if you’re relying on Windows Media Player for multimedia playback, because the only type of playlist file it can create is WVX. Needless to say that since it’s a playlist, it needs to be used on the same PC as the files you add, otherwise the file has no use.
You can arrange files in the order you see fit, but you’re most likely going to have a hard time doing so, especially if the path is too long, because of the limited list size, and no option to make the main window bigger. Items are not numbered, nor can you see the total number of files on the list. There is an option through which you can shuffle the whole list at the press of a button.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that W7 Video Playlist Creator comes in handy if you really need to create a playlist for Windows Media Player, and there’s no other way to do so. Even though it comes in a lightweight package, requiring little effort and time from start to end, it feels a little rough around the edges overall.
