For the longest time, users have had to rely on the tools provided out-of-the-box by the operating system, adjusting their workflow around the limitations incurred by the main software platform. As a result, productivity levels can often decrease.
In response, many passionate individuals take matters into their own hands and release programs tasked to fill the gaps left by the original proprietary software that many use in their various work fields. One such software is SnipDo, a highly customizable and smart context menu filled with useful shortcuts.
Following Microsoft’s latest iteration of the Fluent design language adopted throughout the menus of Windows 11, SnipDo’s rounded corners, clean layout and minimalist icons blend in with the rest of the proprietary system applications.
When booting up the software, the user is greeted by a dual-pane outline, with the various customization categories and functions on the left side extending themselves on the right for displaying all available toggles.
The application excels in providing an extension of the cursor functionality for users whose workflow does not rely too much on the keyboard shortcuts and would rather use the mouse as the primary tool for getting things done.
Dragging or double-clicking a word or sentence triggers the program’s context menu, which can automatically detect email addresses for quickly sending messages or recognize website links for quickly accessing them in the browser. The main commands rely on text processing, letting the user directly copy, cut, paste, google or share chunks of text inside any app without shifting their focus from the window they are currently on.
The developer allows for installing an impressive array of other free extensions on top of the default ones, most of them revolving around adding support for search engines other than Google, translating text on-the-go, calculating simple equations, converting currency, looking up words in a dictionary, opening links in different browsers, pasting random text, inserting the current date and time, or generating random passwords.
There is support for creating your own URL, text, script or hotkey extensions for inserting or opening website links or executing macro shortcuts. The context menu’s design can be picked from a standard horizontal or a vertical one, both of which can be collapsed, while also providing options for choosing its size, on-screen duration and position.
The app can be prevented from running in certain programs of your choice, and hotkeys can be assigned to various functions or extensions, the application also being equipped with touch support. Subscribing to a Pro version of the software lifts the default limits of the version concerning the number of user-made extensions and paste actions, while also adding dark theme and backup capabilities.
In a nutshell, SnipDo can be of tremendous use for mouse-focused workflows while also expanding on the native Windows context menu with easily accessible shortcuts for copying, pasting, searching, inserting and altering text in a wide variety of ways.
