Classic Volume Mixer

Regardless of whether you just read about it or got your hands on the Insider Previews, one thing that most of us can agree on is that Windows 11 comes with a lot of changes, both big and small. Moreover, there are certain things that users are likely to miss, such as Volume Mixer layout.

As the name suggests, Classic Volume Mixer is a tool designed to add the old mixer to Windows 11, a feature that was moved to the Settings app for the new operating system.

The application does not require installation or configuration and is as simple as it gets. All you need to do is simply launch it and the volume mixer layout is going to be available in the System Tray. In other words, the app is very simplistic and has a single role, to add a new icon in the System Tray that you can use to launch the old layout.

As previously mentioned, Windows 11 still has a volume mixer, but Microsoft decided to move it to the Settings app and was replaced with a UWP version. While it performs the same functions, the truth is that it may be inconvenient to always have to access the Settings to make any modifications to the volumes of the running apps.

To make things even more smoother for you, the developer recommends you place the application in the startup folder, so that you do not have to manually launch it every time you boot the computer.

In the eventuality that you decided to upgrade to Windows 11, but got used or simply prefer the flyout of the volume mixer specific to Windows 10 and older, then perhaps you can consider giving Classic Volume Mixer a try.
