TGA stands for Truevision Graphics Adapter and it is a raster graphics file format that supports 8, 16, 24, or 32 bits per pixel.

The compression method of TGA is particularly suited for simple images or textures, as it does not fully support pictures that feature multiple color variations. This format is especially used for textures files from 3D video games.

Also known as TARGA, this format is currently supported by a wide range range of applications that can also perform some basic editing operations (like cropping and rotating).

Moreover, TGA viewers will also offer users the possibility to export their images to other graphic formats.
