Description

QuickShade allows you to quickly change the display brightness on your Mac.

Because the brightness is achieved through software rather than hardware, it can be made even darker than the standard setting.

Add shortcut

I use a Mac mini and a logitech keyboard for mac. There are brightness /- keys on the keyboard, but they don't change the brightness of my display. (I'm pretty sure Mac minis don't do this natively.) I was able to add these buttons as shortcuts to run QuickShade's Brightness up/down controls via QuickShade's preferences menu. It works extremely well. Very handy!

NOTE: I had to turn off the MacOS keyboard shortcut before this would work. The MacOS keyboard shortcut can be found in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Display > uncheck "Decrease display brightness" and "Increase display brightness."

Also, the on screen brightness GUI display isn't utilized by this app. Which is okay, but worth mentioning. Also, the mouse's cursor doesn't dim with the rest of the screen. Some may find this annoying. I however, like that it makes it easier to find the cursor on a crowded screen.

Great way to get around an Apple bug

I have been using two Thunderbolt displays on my Apple Macbook Pro. More often than not, the brightness stops working on one or both displays. I've tried to debug this and have tried work-arounds since until the cows came home. Nothing worked.

So, I while things are working, I set the displays on max brigtness, and installed this app. I now control the displays ONLY from this app. Works nicely and I am no longer frustrated. The only thing I would desire for this program is the ability to control two displays seperately. But, app works great!

Awesome -- more please

This is a life-saver app for those of us with Mac Mini. It is so much easier to be able to change the screen brigness on the my Desktop that it is on my Samsung's menus. WISH that the brightness keys on my keyboard worked.... I have set f16 to toggle between full brightness and 75%, but the F1 and F2 (down/up brightness keys) do not work. Would be nice if the same app could be used to control the displays built in speakers as well. But I still give it a 5! If the key issue was fixed and volume control added, well the Apple Store would need to allow 7 stars for the app.
