Description

Novus Scan is a tool for teachers, editors and writers, enabling you to find text that has been copied between documents. Create a document database of articles, term papers, homework assignments or research materials. Then, import documents that you'd like to scan and Novus Scan will compare them to all the documents in its database and show you any matching text between the contents of its database and the document that you're scanning.

Notes:

- Novus Scan only checks your document against documents that you add to its internal database.
- The scanning algorithm has only been tested on English language text. Support for other languages is coming soon.

Novus Scan works completely offline, so you can be sure that your documents won't be uploaded to the internet and you won't violate intellectual property agreements. Build a database of documents, whether its your own previously written work, reference materials used in research, or term papers from classes that you're teaching. Novus Scan is a great tool for freelance writers, enabling you to prevent accidental self plagiarism and find text that you've accidentally used for another client's project. If you're a teacher, Novus Scan will help you compare term papers and other student assignments. For students, put your reference and research documents into Novus Scan's database and then scan your document to ensure that you haven't accidentally copied any text from other sources.

Key Features:
- Import documents in popular formats, including Word, PDF and html.
- Find matching phrases at least 8 words long.
- Print or save a report that shows the copied text with references to the source documents.

It works

It does work. I ask my students to write a summary of an article. Of course, I ask them to use their own words.
This tool enables me, not only to compare the summary with the original article, but also to compare it to the database of previously presented papers. This has allowed me to spot "suspicious" coincidences between works from previous years and the current one.

Things that the developers could improve: separate databases. We could save a database (not only write some comments) so we could keep working with only those files. This would make the scan faster and it would be easier for us to know if we have included all the documents we wanted or if we have to include any other.

If it had that last feature I'd give it 4 stars, and if it had the feature of checking the internet for coincidences, I'd give it a 5+… ;o)

nifty little app

This is a pretty cool litle app that finds text matches between two sets of documents. I find it quite useful to check for plagiarism in student essays and research papers. It's pretty easy to use: you create a database of documents you want to scan against, and another list of documents that are the suspects. The program finds any text strings that match both sets of documents and highlights them. For $16, it's a bargain,

Useless, it does not compare with documents on the web

Plagiarism checker is supposed to check against millions of documents on the web. Instead, in this software the user is supposed to build the reference data base. It is therefore USELESS. It will never find plagiarism.
