Description

Skeebus is a macOS app that displays your current public IP address in the menu bar, along with a country flag. You can optionally choose to hide the IP address and only display the country flag. The app uses GeoIP services from ipinfo.io to provide country, region, city, postal code, latitude/longitude, ISP information, and hostname. You can even click the lat/long coordinates to plot the location on a map. Skeebus also includes IP addresses for all of your local interfaces, providing you with even more information!

If Skeebus is unable to contact the GeoIP provider, it will fall back to another provider and determine your IP address without the GeoIP information. The app does not periodically contact either provider to update your address; rather, it automatically updates any time an interface state changes (a cable is plugged in/unplugged, wireless is connected/disconnected, a VPN is connected/disconnected, etc.). You can also manually refresh the data at any point.

Great, but needs refresh settings

This app works pretty well, except that it doesn’t refresh when your IP changes, and you have to manually refresh. Sometimes on startup, it starts off as offline until you refresh it. Seems like a simple refresh interval setting would solve these problems.

disappointing

does not auto refresh

edit: i was corrected, rather sternly by the developer on this issue. this app most certainly does auto refresh unless you are using a vpn. i bought this specifically to monitor my vpn public address, so for me, it does not auto refresh. i did find an app that in fact DOES auto refresh under vpmn usage called 'Display My IP'

edit: i use whole site vpn so there is no interface state change that it can read. the only way to discern that is by using an internet-based server as a lighthouse.

Developer Response ,

Given your latest response about using a site VPN, that makes sense. That is not the way this app was designed to work. It does not send any outbound communication unless it detects a local interface state change, in which case it reaches out to ipinfo.io to refresh the information.

refresh please!

Does what it says, but I mainly want to use it to insure I’m VPNed when I think i am. This fails as chaning external IPs doesn’t refresh the IP. Even an auto refresh every 5 seconds or so would do the trick...
