Description

Good news: yCal2 is in the making! A new version, completely rewritten from scratch is coming this summer :-)

yCal is a calendaring app to help keep the overview on a whole year. It features a unique "months by column" year view in addition to the more conventional week views, provides ample marking and note taking options, and central holiday and birthday management.

yCal has been designed from the ground up to make a better desktop calendar. Its unique year view gives you the perfect overview in a fraction of a second. Days can be marked in different colors and styles to give you more information in one picture (e.g., to show days of vacation, times of travel etc.) - just like on a normal paper calendar. The full year can be shown side-by-side with the week view, giving you more fine granular access to individual events.

Everything is optimized for giving you access to powerful features with minimum user interface overhead. For example, just hit space in the year view to quickly look at the details of a selected day. Or just start typing to add a note. Swipe left or right to scroll through years and weeks.

yCal seamlessly integrates with calendars set up in OS X - there is no proprietary data store. yCal operates on your local machine's calendars, and if you run Apple's iCal or Calendar app in the background, you also have access to data from your CalDAV servers, iCloud, or from wherever else without the need for importing or copying. Note that yCal does not provide native CalDAV access to calendar servers as of today, but you may use Apple's iCal or Calendar app to sync yCal data with those calendar servers. (Native CalDAV support is in the works for an updated version of yCal).

Features:
- unique "months by column" view
- events "heatmap" in year view
- quickview feature
- easy note taking
- lots of customization options
- split views to show year and week simultaneously
- customizable colored markers for labeling days
- statistics on markers
- central management of holidays
- central management of birthdays
- seamless integration with standard calendar stores
- sync all your calendars via iCal/Calendar
- full support for retina displays

Not money well spent

I was looking for an innovative, useful desktop calendar app and decided to try this one. However, I can make neither heads nor tails out of this application. It appears to be unable to synch with anything in our universe, has no Help available in-app and just sits there on my screen, daring me to find a way to actually make it useful. This app may have some (well) hidden value, but I'd suggest checking it out carefully before spending money on it.

Great app

I've been looking for a nice yearly calendar for a long time. I just don't get along with this block layout found in most calendar apps -- and I really love this one! It's just great to highlight days or weeks and have the whole year in sight.
Setting up and using those "markers" may not be overly intuitive, but works great once you figured it out. The app picked up all the calendars I have configured in Apple Calendar, and data is synced instantly. However, the app does not directly talk to remote calendar servers (as mentioned in the description) -- but firing up Apple's Calendar once in a while solves that issue. Would be nice, however, if remote syncing would be built-in.
Bottom line: great app with innovative features -- and well worth its price.
