Update (Feb 16, 2012):

In the new update I embed a Unicode bangla font with it so you will no longer need to install any font in your machine.

I was in need of a good bangla typing editor from long ago (yes i know there are many bangla typing software available over there; they don’t worked for me.) so i have decided to make one for me.  (I released its first preview).  You can try it in here.

Feature:

1. It is a phonetic based bangla editor. So you will not need to learn any special bangla key layout (like bijoy,prosika etc). Just use your english typing skill to write bangla. like to write ‘আমার’ simply type ‘Amar’ or to write ‘কক্সবাজার’ simply type ‘kxbajar’ or to write ‘বাংলাদেশ’ simply type ‘banglaDesh’ (is’t it easy?)

2. This editor is completely written in pure java and lunched with java web-start. So you can run it virtually anywhere. and because of web-start you will not have to follow any complex installation procedure (just simply click and launch).

3. This editor generates Unicode based bangla character so you can copy and paste those characters anywhere.

4. You can include this editor to your blog or webpage by copying the code from here.

As this is the first alpha version so lots more features are coming next, just stay tuned…

Installation:

To run this editor on your pc you should have installed at least java 6 in your pc and also browser’s plugin for Java (and that must be enabled). If you already have these then just go to this url http://uzzal.me and click on the Launch button thats it. It will install Bangla Pad on your pc. It could take some time depending on your internet speed (but that just only for the first time launch).

One Important thing is you should have Vrinda (Unicode bangla) font installed in your pc to see the bangla character generated with this editor. If you dont’ already have this, you can get this (Vrinda.ttf) font from here. (Ubuntu and OpenSolaris doesn’t ship with vrinda font preinstalled. I don’t know about Mac). To install vrinda font in ubuntu download the vrinda font in your ubuntu desktop. then type in the terminal

cd Desktop
sudo cp Vrinda.ttf /usr/share/fonts
sudo fc-cache -fv

Bangla Typing Help:

Writing Join Character: To write ‘চট্টগ্রাম’ simply type ‘ct+tg+ram’ notice the ‘+’ character (yes this does the join work.) To write the ‘+’ simply type ‘++’. and to type other character just follow what your mind says.

Some Examples:

‘সমস্যা’ = ‘smsYa’, ‘কৃষক’=’kWSk’, ‘দিঘী’ =’DiGii’, ‘ঔষধ’=’OuSDh’,’ক্ষয়’=’k+Sy’,’দুষ্কর’=’DuS+kr
