Gunship III - Combat Flight Simulator 4+

My kids and I do enjoy this light simulator but we are using a Thurstmaster joystick and there doesn’t seem to be a way to map keys / configure it. So it mostly works but I can't fire weapons using the joystick!

Like this game a LOT ! Becuase it’s one of the most realistic flying games I’ve ever encountered. The cockpit layouts are exactly like the real aircraft. The flight controls work like a real aircraft. Unlike most aerial simulation games when you hit the down arrow the elevator raises and the nose pitches up ! Most aerial combat simulation games the elevator control is backwards i.e. when you push the down arrow the aircraft noses down. That drives me nuts! Not how a real airlpane works!
You take off and land ( in the Navy version you take off and land on the carrier) . You can crash if you screw up. The weapons are just what the real aircraft had. The same machine guns, canons , missles and bombs. Even the same number of rounds the real aircraft carried. Someone did a lot of research to make this a relaistic game. For $5 it’s well worth it.
If you are not familiar with the basics of how to fly and aircraft there is definitely a learning curve. It will take you a while to master the aircraft and weapons systems. You build positive and negative G tolerance as you score points playing the game. At first you may black out easily when pulling high G loads.
Now the BAD NEWS: This game will NOT run on the new MAC OS Catalina ! I really would love to see an upgrade so it will run on Catalina. I am avoiding upgrading my MAC OS so I can continue to play the game.

The game is really fun in multiplayer rooms - it’s the best part of the game. The problem is that the developers don’t release updates for all platforms in tandem. They will release updates for iOS but not for Mac OS. This means that Mac users are in limbo until the Mac update is released, which can take weeks. Mac players will still be able to connect to multiplayer rooms, but there will only be a few players there, since the majority of players seem to be on mobile devices.

Mac players purchase the game just like iOS players do, and it doesn’t seem like a good practice to release udpates that effectively break multiplayer for a segment of the games install base.

The game is loads of fun, but just be aware before you buy for Mac that you will not be a priority to the developers. If they would simply release updates for all platforms at the same time I would rate this game as four stars, but the practice of ignoring their Mac players earns a three star rating.
