GRAPHIC TRACK MAKER:

Graphic Track Maker is a slot car race track layout generator that can be used to find new layouts for slot car race sets or other similar sets. It can either randomly generate or perform an exhaustive search for track layouts. The layouts are displayed graphically and also by description to aid in visualizing and setting up the race track design.

Graphic Track Maker gives you the ability to enter many different sections of slot car track, train track, etc. by name, number of sections, angle, and either the radius or length of the outer edge.

Once entered, you can use the program to randomly search for new track designs. This is particularly useful if you have lost a section of track or combined two or more track sets since the instructions that came with your slot car set will only show layouts using all of the original pieces. Additionally, since it is random, the results can be quite interesting with possibly hairpin turns and long straight sections for speed.

The program can also search sequentially through all mathematical configurations in an effort to find every possible track pattern. For smaller sets this can be informative, but be warned this number becomes ridiculously large very quickly for sets of more than about 15 sections.

WaldoWares Utility for Excel:

Excel Utility finds and selects entire rows or subsections of rows in an Excel worksheet that contain spaces and zeros (the default) or any specified string. The user then has the option to look over the selection and deselect any that should not be deleted and then choose to delete all of the remaining selected rows. It is useful if you pull data in from other sources and wish to clean-up empty or useless rows.

Towers of Hanoi:

This is not an interactive game for you to play but rather a demonstration of how to solve this classic puzzle. The time estimate is very rough and only intended to give you an idea of how many years it might take for a computer to solve various numbers of disks. As I remember the story, monks were to move 64 disks from the start peg to the destination peg by moving only one disk at a time and never placing a larger disk on top of a smaller disk. When they completed the task, the world was supposed to come to an end. It should be noted that if they could move one disk in one second (which would be pretty hard to do) it would take about 500 billion years. With this program using a 1.6 gigahertz processor I could finish the puzzle in about 50 million years. Less time for the world, but chances are my power supply would burn up before then.

If you click your left or right mouse button and drag up, down, left, or right you can change the sizes of the disks.

RVCalc:

If you are thinking about buying a recreational vehicle like a travel trailer or motor home and are worried about the poor gas mileage and other costs, then you should use this program. RVCalc will allow you to test many different conditions like gas mileage of the family car versus the towing vehicle, motel cost versus RV campsite cost, and more. It will then calculate the number of years until the cost of purchasing and maintaining your RV would be paid for completely. Maybe you would only typically spend a week or two at a resort as opposed to many short weekends in you RV or maybe you would only take the RV out once or twice a year. With RVCalc you can test all those scenarios to see if you could expect to own the RV long enough to justify all the costs.

I wrote this program when we bought a travel trailer and were curious if it was a cost effective way to vacation. There were so many variables like motel cost versus RV camp site cost, gas mileage of a travel vehicle (Subaru in our case) versus the RV towing vehicle (truck), etc that I thought it would be nice to write something that could do a little more specialized calculating beyond a standard spreadsheet. There are some interesting features like searching for minimum or maximum values for various conditions. The program essentially is intended to tell the user the number of years it would take to completely pay off the cost of the RV if you vacation with it as opposed to vacationing at motels or resorts.

If the RV is paid off.... it is paid off. In a way, it is like it is free. This is assuming you were going to vacation anyway and that money would be spent regardless. So after that, you own an RV. It is rather like renting versus owning a home. You are always paying a mortgage, the question is: Are you paying yours or somebody else's mortgage?

ItsLogical:

What this program is:ItsLogical will take any logical statement that contains “Ifs”, “Elses”, “ElseIfs”, “Ands”, “Ors”, “Nots”, and user entered “Statements”, and it will attempt to reduce that logical statement to its simplest form. It does not matter how complicated the statement is, ItsLogical can handle any combination of the allowed logical operators without loss in performance.

What this program isn’t:

Fast. Even though it can handle any size statement without trouble, the combinations and permutations that it considers when trying to find alternatives become unwieldy for VB.Net. So this program is painfully slow. Also, though I like the interface that I have written, many users may find it confusing.

How does it work?:

It generates a massive truth table in Excel to exhaust the truth values for the given statement, and the user decides which logical operator to try next and then checks to see if there is a logical equivalence.

Who would enjoy this program?:

Certainly, math students who are interested in logical equivalences and truth tables should find it fascinating to find the negation of an If-Then-Else statement, or the And-Or equivalent to any If-Then-ElseIf-Else statement, or the reduction of a ridiculously complicated series of Ands, Ors, and Nots to a simple statement of Ands, Ors, and Nots.

Also, anybody using Excel or similar spreadsheet and has entered a complicated If-Then-Else and wants to see it in tree form, then edit the tree, then send it back to Excel. This is really useful if Excel is telling you that you have missed some parenthesis somewhere and you find yourself desperately guessing, “Maybe if I just put a right parenthesis here, it will give me the value I want?”

Who would not want this program?:

Pretty much everybody else…

Rock Paper Scissors:

This program attempts to memorize your behavior when playing Rock, Paper, Scissors. It tries to anticipate your strategy and predict your next move. It chooses between three different types of patterns and anywhere between two and five levels deep. The more you play, the more it knows about you and the less you should win. If it does its job, you should find that in the long-run it will win consistently.

Should you find the program succeeding a little too well and you suspect it of cheating, try the “My Next Prediction” option under the “Analysis” menu. This should help convince you of the program’s ability to know you better than you know yourself.
