What’s Coming Up Next? – MacHouse Introducing faceBlock for Mac OS X

Mac software faceBlock

TOKYO (MacHouse) – Last month, we released five or six OS X applications. This month, we will be slow since we have to do taxes. Anyway, we have already submitted the first application of the month to Mac App Store. This new release is called faceBlock.

faceBlock is a desktop application that utilizes OSX‘s Core Image to detect faces on pictures so that they can be isolated as separated images or entire pictures can be exported with faces filtered. It has two modes. If you set the mode switch to Detection, faceBlock will show you which face is detected in a given picture. The main objective of this application is to let the user hide faces. So switch to the Face block mode. Then select an effect to apply to each picture. For now, there are five effects to choose from: CIDiscBlur, CIDotScreen, CICrystallize, CIPixellate, CIExposureAdjust. After adjusting some values, you can export all pictures with faces covered. Or you can also batch-export each face as an image.

  1. Hello!

The FaceDetection doesn’t work. Allway wrong sections will be selected. What can I do?

    Andreas

  2. Mr. Luo,

We are sorry to hear that it doesn’t work for you. You can either give us more information so that we can take a close look or contact Mac App Store to get a refund. For me, it works fine.

  3. Allways the detected area for the faceblock is located at the right upper corner of the preview. I can solve this problem. And I dont know how.

  4. Andreas,

I’ve received your photo. Thank you. This photo may not work because two figures in the picture wear glasses. If you read ‘Limitations,’ the face recognition API can fail in this respect.

  5. Andreas, I don’t have an answer as to why faceBlock fails on the 2nd picture. It’s possible that it fails because the picture is so bright that it doesn’t see his mouth. That’s just a guess. If you adjust brightness and contrast levels on your photo, it might work.

  6. It’s also possible that the application fails on your OS version. It was developed under OS X 10.7. I suppose it was also tested under OS X 10.9.0. I tested it under 10.7.5 earlier. Anyhow, in reference to the top topic, we won’t be able to fix anything until our main machine is back.

  7. Well so please refund my paid money for this product in this case, please.
