Blocked In

Blocked In is a Rush Hour style puzzle game. Rush Hour was invented in the late 1970s by Nob Yoshigahara. The game is enjoyed by millions around the world and thus there are many versions of this game in all platforms. In Windows Phone Market Place, Blocked In is simply the best implementation of this popular game, with 500+ levels and impressive graphics and gameplay.

The game has a very simple goal, get the colored block out of board via the opening on the right. The only problem is that there are other blocks doing what they like to do “blocking” the way. So you need to move vertical blocks up and down, and horizontal blocks left and right and make way for the colored block.

Blocked In Features:

– Quality graphics
– 3 unique themes, pick your style!
– 600 unique and challenging puzzles in 2 level packs
– Gradually increasing difficulty levels
– Progress tracking

Blocked In Level 98 is one of the really challenging levels. A few users already asked for the solution for this level. Here’s a video of the solution:

Blocked In Free Released!

Blocked In Free is now in Windows Phone Market Place!

Blocked In was originally released as a paid game in November 2010 during WP7 US launch. Since then it has remained as one of the most downloaded paid puzzle games. Yet, it is clear that free games section gets an order of magnitude more traffic than the paid games, so Blocked In clearly needed a free version.

With Blocked In v2 the game got a huge update; including 500 additional levels, a total redesign with 3 unique themes among others. This was a perfect time to publish the free version.

On 3/24 Blocked In free was released to market, just two days before my son was born 🙂 The plan was to create a proper web site, and to do some marketing to get the game into top free games list. Well, let’s put it this way, I had no time or desire to do anything for a while. Having a baby is such a great and intense experience that you simply put off everything else.

The paid version has always been one of the popular games and with a much improved new version I did expect the free version to climb the rankings eventually. But I had not expected what happened during the next few days after the release. While we were still at the hospital, Blocked In Free climbed the rankings rapidly. Soon it was in Top 100 free games. In a couple weeks it made its way into Top 50. As I write this Blocked In Free ranks 25th in free games in the US. In a number of European countries including Germany it’s in top 5 overall apps. So far, more than 35K copies has been downloaded. This is all with me doing absolutely nothing to promote the game. One of the nicest things is the reviews/comments that Blocked In gets every day. It has a 4.8/5 average in most countries.

In the next few days I’ll try to write about some topics like paid vs. free, impressions, and overall some tips about how to create a successful game.

Meanwhile, click here to download Blocked In Free, and have fun!
