TOKYO (MacHouse) – Last year, we exclusively developed Windows application. For now, we are done with Windows because Microsoft appears to destroy the desktop application community. So we started developing iOS applications last November. We did so just till the very end of the last month. Then we’ve suddenly switched back to Mac OS X. So far, we’ve released two Mac applications. Before this month ends, we happen to have one more Mac application to introduce. This new Mac software title is called JustTomato. JustTomato? You mean, grow virtual tomatoes on your Mac? Nope.

JustTomato is a little Mac application that allows the user to convert a group of image files (PNG, TIFF) into Mac OS X icon files (ICNS). JustTomato also lets you convert square-ratio images (PNG, TIFF) into iOS icon files (Icon72.PNG, Icon.144.PNG) at the same time.  

Features

1. Batch-create icon files out of source files (PNG, TIFF).
2. Drag and drop one more source files directly onto the drop box of the main application window.
3. Create OS X icons (ICNS) and iOS icon files (PNG) all at the same time.
4. Language: English only.
5. The application supports the Retina display.
6. Application file size: 1.3 MB
7. The application comes with a complete online user’s guide. (Choose ‘User’s Guide’ under ‘Help.’)

System requirements

1. Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or higher (compatible with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks)
2. 64-bit system

Limitations

1. The Developer tool (Xcode) must be installed.
2. The dimensions of icon files that the application creates are 1,024 x 1,024 px only.
3. In order for the application to create OS X icons, source files must have at least 1,024 x 1,024 px in dimensions. In order to create iOS icon files, source files must have at least 144 x 144 px in dimensions.
4. A source file type must be PNG or TIFF.
5. A source file must have square-ratio dimensions (width = height) with no larger than 2048 px.

Note: Release dates are ones when updates are announced here, not when updates are actually released at Mac App Store. We make no promise that they will be accepted by iTunes Connect and then released at Mac App Store.

1. Functions containing deprecated methods are replaced.
2. The application additionally produces an iPhone spotlight image and an iPhone settings image for iPhone 6 Plus.

1. Fix: The Retina iPhone Spotlight icon size was incorrectly set. It’s now set to 80 px.
2. The application now supports the iPhone 6 Plus application icon.
3. Change: The minimum source image size for iOS icons is set to 180 px.

1. The user can now select more than one image in the list to remove at a time.
2. The user can now remove images from the list by pressing the Delete key.
3. When the user enables the iOS checkbox, the application will create 9 images required for iOS.

1. When the user selects and opens one or more images with a non-square ratio (width != height), a status message will appear at the bottom-left corner of the application window, alerting the user of the problem.
2. The application runs the export process in background with a modal window + a progress wheel.

1.0.8 (Released on August 19, 2013)

1. Fix: The image list could indicate wrong dimensions when a source icon image has resolutions other than 72 x 72 dpi.
2. The application creates a folder labeled icon.iconset that contains various sizes of image files, which will eventually be deleted, by default. The user now has options of deleting or not deleting this folder. See Preferences > General settings for more information.
3. A few other minor changes and fixes are done.

1. When the user clicks on the export toolbar button, they will be prompted to select a folder where to save icon files.
